Welcome to our Community

FCACA was unofficially started in 2007 with the encouragement of 1 special lady who
passed away a few years ago. She was favorably known as Nanay Thelma who was
instrumental in the inception of this organization. The organization was incorporated on May
7, 2020.

FCACA Profile‬

The Filipino-Canadian Association of Cochrane Alberta is originally established in 2010 by Filipino foreign workers and Filipino-Canadian residents based in Cochrane, Alberta to rekindle the Filipino spirit through sense of community cooperation or “bayanihan” and unique Filipino cultural practices. The group further aims to provide assistance, through individual member’s capacity or as a group, in various ways and to strengthen the collective support base by fostering harmonious relationship and interaction amongst Filipino-Canadian around Cochrane and neighbouring areas. In order to achieve its advocacy, FCACA is committed to spearhead several social oriented activities which include social gatherings, fund-raising activities and sports fest, and actively participating in Filipino-theme affairs and presentations among others.

FCACA prides itself of running the Cochrane Ballers Group since 2013; which evolved to its new name Sunday Hoops. The group is providing the sense of joy and camaraderie among basketball enthusiasts. The participation of the Cochrane Team to various basketball league across Alberta has further boost the ballers to greater heights. Fielding a selection of All Filipino-Canadian ballers and with the active support and participation of the FCACA, the group has brought home championship trophies and various individual awards bringing pride and joy to the Pinoy Community.

For years, the FCACA , under the leadership of the Community’s maiden President, Mike Baustista, has consistently participated in various Cochrane community programs such as cultural presentations, town parades and held a number of special sports events. Likewise, the group has been actively linked with other established Filipino organization across Alberta and other active organizations in Cochrane.

To help raise funds for its advocacies and activities, a number of fund raising events were also undertaken. Proceeds of these activities were pooled and directly donated to groups with immediate needs in the locality and back in the Philippines.

FCACA also gives credence to the special skills and talents of its members. These helpful and caring members are committed to help and are regularly requested by the community for assistance ranging from cooking, repairs of vehicles, fencing, house transfer (lipat bahay), mortgages concern, electrical concerns, hosting and coordination, decoration and arrangements, snow shaving, and other types of services that can be availed at minimal or if possible, no costs at all.

FCACA is diverse in terms of dialect, point of origin, traditions, beliefs and religion yet one and united in achieving the group’s objectives and goals. The Filipino community will continue to strive to excel and expand its activities and to plan and achieve more in the service of providing joy and assurance of service to its members, allied organizations and communities.

The registration of FCACA as a nonprofit organization on May 7, 2020 marked and strongly solidified its commitment to serve the Filipino community in Cochrane and its neighbouring areas.
